What is it?
Kybella is an injectable treatment that destroys fat cells below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin” and cheeks to improve the appearance and profile of the face and neck. Kybella is a prescription injectable synthetic form of deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies. Deoxycholic acid works by breaking down fat in our diet and when injected, breaks down fat in the injected area
Who Can benefit?
Many patients can benefit from Kybella. Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable to destroy fat cells in the submental chin area. Kybella may be right for you if you are bothered by fat under the chin and you don’t want to have surgery. For many, fat in this area does not go away even with diet and exercise. Your practitioner will discuss your goals and customize your treatment to ensure your complete satisfaction.
What areas can be treated?
Kybella is most commonly used for submental chin fat; however, off-label uses for Kybella can be for cheek fullness and bra fat.
How long do results last?
Kybella is permanent fat reduction. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight, then you may notice some fat return to the area.
What to expect?
Your practitioner will examine your face and neck and discuss with you the best treatments to meet your expectations. Kybella is often combined with other treatments such as dermal fillers for instant age defying results. If you have any skin laxity, for best results, it is best to combine Kybella with dermal fillers and skin rejuvenation treatments to sculpt and lift the jawline.
The skin in the treatment areas will be cleansed and a topical numbing agent will be applied. The kybella will be injected with a very small needle in a grid pattern in the desired area. During treatment, minimal discomfort will be experienced. Immediately following, you may experience a moderate pinching sensation for about 30 minutes. For a few days after, you may experience some swelling, bruising and numbness in the area. After a Kybella treatment, you may return to your daily activities.
For optimal results, a series of 2-4 treatments at 4-8 week intervals may be needed
