Pre- and Post-Treatment Care

How do I prevent bruising before injectable treatment?

To minimize bruising:

Two weeks prior to treatment:

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible, for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Naproxen (Aleve) and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections. o If you have medical concerns or questions regarding the stopping of any of these medications or supplements, please consult with your prescribing physician.
  • You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any pain management you may need prior to your treatment.
  • Do not have any type of dental appointment 2 weeks prior to your filler appointment.

Seven days prior to treatment:

  • Take Arnica Montana 30x to help with possible bruising and swelling.
  • Take a Bromelain supplement to help with inflammation and bruising prevention.

One day prior  and Day of treatment:

  • Drink a spinach, kale and pineapple smoothie. Blend 1 cup each with ice for a tasty smoothie to decrease inflammation and bruising.
  • Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages – especially red wine – at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

What should I do after an injectable treatment:

Following your treatment:

  • Avoid lying flat or bending far forward for 4 hours after receiving Botox/Dysport.
  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed to do so by the provider.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling.
  • If you have swelling you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour. Be careful not to frostbite the area if it is numb after injection.
  • Continue avoiding anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible, for a period of one week after treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Naproxen (Aleve) and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can cause prolonged bleeding, bruising and swelling after injections.  If you have medical concerns or questions regarding the stopping of any of these medications or supplements, please consult with your prescribing physician.
  • You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any discomfort.
  • Sleep face-up and slightly elevated if you experience any swelling.
  • Take Arnica Montana 30x to help with any bruising and swelling.
  • If you receive under eye filler, do not wear goggles for two weeks after injections.
  • Do not have any type of dental appointment or immunizations 2 weeks after your filler appointment.

How do I treat bruises after treatment?

Post-treatment care includes:

  • We offer complimentary laser treatments to help erase bruising more quickly
  • Applying ice packs to the treated area for 10–20 minutes at a time, several times a day.
  • Continuing Arnica montana supplements
  • We will provide you with arnica cream to apply post treatment to help minimize bruising
  • Avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and blood-thinning medications for 24–48 hours.
  • Keeping the head elevated and avoiding pressure on the treated areas.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we kindly request at least 48 hours’ notice for appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. This policy allows us to accommodate other clients and maintain efficient scheduling.

Do you have a return policy?

All skincare product and service sales are final. However, our expert team is committed to recommending products and services that are best suited to support your skin’s health and help you achieve your desired results.

Do my gift cards or prepaid series expire?

Our gift cards and prepaid series are valid for one year from the date of purchase. We encourage clients to use them within this period to enjoy the full benefits of our services.

Treatment Preparation and Aftercare

How do I prepare for laser treatments?

Preparation steps include:

  • Avoiding sun exposure and tanning beds for at least four weeks prior.
  • Refraining from waxing or plucking the treatment area.
  • Ensuring the skin is clean and free of makeup or lotions on the day of treatment.
Can I fly after getting injections?

Yes, you can fly. However, keep in mind that air travel soon after injections may exacerbate swelling due to cabin pressure changes.

Can I work out after injections?

After Botox, Dysport or Daxxify, you must avoid exercise for 4 hours after treatment. After dermal fillers, you can exercise after dermal fillers; however, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours post-injection. Physical activity increases blood flow, which can lead to increased swelling or bruising.

Can I get a massage or facial after facial injections?

It’s best to wait at least 24–72 hours before receiving a massage or facial after facial injections. Pressure and manipulation of the treated areas can affect the placement of the injectable product and may increase the risk of bruising.

Treatment Frequency and Expectations

How often should I come in for treatments?

Your treatment frequency depends on your personal goals and the services tailored to support them. As a general guide:

  • Botox®, Dysport®, or Daxxify®: Every 3–4 months
  • Dermal Fillers: Every 6–12 months
  • Laser Treatments: 2–4 times per year, based on your customized plan
  • Facials & Chemical Peels: Monthly, or as recommended by your provider

At Skin Appeal, we believe in empowering you to age on your own terms. That’s why we encourage developing a personalized annual skincare and aesthetics plan—designed to support you through every stage of your skin’s evolution.

What should I expect during a consultation appointment?

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, review your medical history, and assess your skin’s condition. This allows us to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your budget and needs. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the procedures we recommend.

Skincare and Anti-Aging

At what age should I start skincare?

It’s beneficial to start a basic skincare routine in your early teens, focusing on cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection. As you age, incorporating products with active ingredients like retinoids and antioxidants can help maintain skin health and prevent premature aging.

At what age should I start injectables?

By our mid-20s, the skin’s natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid begins to decline—leading to a gradual loss of volume, hydration, and elasticity. Starting injectables early allows us to support your skin’s structure and delay visible signs of aging, so you can look as vibrant as you feel.

At what age should I start skin rejuvenation treatments?

Skin rejuvenation treatments can be beneficial starting in your 20s, especially if you’re experiencing early signs of aging or skin concerns like uneven tone or texture. Early intervention can help maintain youthful skin and prevent more significant issues later on.

What is Skin Appeal’s Foundational Five of Anti-Aging?

At Skin Appeal, we believe that to look your best, feel your best and to age gracefully needs more than just skin-deep approach.

We utilize our foundational five concepts to create a personal plan for your anti-aging journey long-term. With this plan, we will help you reverse age and then teach you how to continue your anti-aging enhancements and prevention for ongoing improvement and results.
